5 Books To Read To Deepen Your Faith

My list doesn’t have to be exactly like yours, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to share some of the books on my list that may push you to purchase, or tune in (audio books, iykyk).

One of my hobbies that I truly enjoy, is reading. I love the feel of a book, curling up on my couch or my favorite chair and opening the pages to worlds unseens and experiences unknown. As much as I love fiction, I thoroughly enjoy nonfiction books. Books that challenge me, push me to think differently and deeply. Books that give me space to ponder on life, growth and how I fit in the nooks and crannies of it all. One of my goals this year, is to read 20 books — 10 nonfiction and 10 fiction. Last year, I read so many fiction books giving my brain the space to not solely focus on personal development, but now, in the first month of 2025, I want to create a balance of both personal development and enjoyment. My list doesn’t have to be exactly like yours, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to share some of the books on my list that may push you to purchase, or tune in (audio books, iykyk).

I Surrender All - Priscilla Shirer |

If you haven’t heard of Priscilla Shirer, I implore you to check her out. Her wit, her wisdom and her breakdown of God’s word continues to encourage me as I deepen my faith and walk with Christ. She’s relatable, down-to-earth and offers such insight into topics relevant to women (and men) that you don’t want to miss out on. Currently — at the time of me writing this — I’m only in chapter 4 and the amount of notes, takeaways and underlining my pen has suffered through is astounding. Check it out!

Awe of God - John Bevere |

Okay, this one… !! I’ve heard nothing but great things about this book, and I am only on Chapter 1. It’s a hefty read, meaning, you’ll want to take your time with this. Bevere is one of the most prolific teachers on the word of God so, just know, if you start this read — you will not be the same — and that’s a good thing.

Holier Than Though - Jackie Hill Perry |

This one I haven’t started yet, but my friends that have, have nothing but incredible things to say. As a person that loves Jackie Hill Perry, how she teaches and exhorts the Lord, I cannot wait to dive into this book. I know this one will take a lot of me, as far as the revelation I’m going to walk away with, so this will be a slow read on purpose.

The Gift of Rejection - Nona Jones |

I’m reading this pretty spontaneously and certainly when I’ve been feeling led — my point is, this one forces you to look at you, your past and unpack the depths of rejection that has shaped us. I’m only a few chapters in, and I’ve already started to do the hard work. It’s not easy to reflect on rejection and its many forms, but it’s incredibly important. I hope you consider this read, a woman that’s whole and healed is a powerful woman, and I want that for you.

The Garden Within - Dr. Anita Phillips |

Similarly to The Gift of Rejection, if you’re ready to do the hard and meaningful work to shed old layers of self and allow the work of the Holy Spirit to shift and transform you into the person you were created to be — this book may be for you. Dr. Phillips’ life experience and her studies awaken the beautiful way God leverages all things to make us who we are truly meant to be.
